WindSat off the coast of Southeast Alaska (Jim Nelson)

WindSat data is used in the forecast process in Anchorage much like we used QuikScat. The WindSat image is normally overlaid with observations as well as model data. In the image above, the data provided by WindSat has allowed the forecaster to assess the accuracy of the numerical model.  The model was determined to be too strong with the Barrier Jet in Southeast Alaska, but had a good handle on the strength of the wind around the low center.
