Operational Use of MODIS False Color

The following two false color images were taken two days apart, with the main area of interest circled.  The Great Falls, Montana National Weather Service used these observations to track the rapid snow melt in northwest Montana as shown by the disappearance of snow cover (in red) in the top image to the bottom image.  The ability to track the snow melt helped the office improve the assessment of flooding potential with this event.
