4 Panel Comparison of Hybrid MODIS/GOES Products

4 Panel Comparison of Hybrid Products for 05/22/2011

Upper Left: GOES Water Vapor, Upper Right: Hybrid IR, Lower Left: Hybrid 3.9 micron, Lower Right: Hybrid Water Vapor

Fine scale details stand out in the Hybrid MODIS/GOES. To the north-northeast of the thunderstorm cluster a series of waves traversing the area looked to help form bands of clouds that were clearly evident in the hybrid products while not apparent in the GOES. Dry mid level inflow to the immediate west of the storm is highlighted in the hybrid product. In addition sharper details are evident in the thunderstorm anvil with overshooting tops and more clearly shows the enhanced V severe satellite signature.

Severe reports received for the late evening hours on the 21st.

  1. Fantastic analysis! It’s so easy to get tunnel-visioned on radar that we ignore the clues provided by satellite, particularly the high-resolution details offered by the hybrid. Thanks for sharing!
