MODIS Infrared Imagery USED to Monitor Changes in Irene

Infrared imagery from NASA’s Terra and Aqua satellites can be used to monitor changes in size and structure of Hurricane Irene as shown above.  The MODIS image from Terra on August 26, 2011 @ 1621UTC (above) shows a significantly expanded storm system but with warmer cloud tops compared to the earlier image from Aqua on August 26, 2011 @ 0657UTC (below).  Note the color scale corresponding to temperature on the bottom of each image.
