VIIRS Day-Night Band Reflectance Image of Hurricane Isaac

One of the exciting new features of the VIIRS instrument aboard the Soumi NPP satellite is the day-night band.  This particular example is the reflectance day-night band which uses moonlight reflected off of clouds to, essentially, create a visible image at night.  Additionally, it will observe city lights at night.  The result is the image below showing the eastern third of the United States at night as well as Hurricane Isaac just off the Louisiana coast at 0649 UTC on August 29, 2012.
